Kelly Maxey


Biography

Kelly Maxey is our Director of Children’s Ministry. She and her family have been attending Riverside Church since June of 1997 and she has directed Riverside Kids, our Children’s Ministry, since September of 2000.

Kelly’s passion is to see children have a love for Christ and grow spiritually as well as equip others to minister to them. Her main responsibilities are to develop the ministry to ensure a safe, secure and fun learning environment for the children as well as oversee and equip over 100 volunteers who serve on a regular basis.

Kelly attended Western Michigan University and majored in Special Education for the emotionally impaired. Before becoming the Director of Children’s Ministry she ran her own day care business in her home. She currently lives in Kalamazoo with her husband Phil and their 4 children, Phillip, Megan, Carter and Rachel.

Brief description of what you do:  Oversee our Nursery thru 5th grade classes, curriculum, staff & events.

Saved: When I was 12 years old at a youth camp that my uncle (who was a youth pastor) invited me to.

Food: Chocolate anything…I may even eat an ant if it had chocolate on it!

Time of day: Night time – after my kids go to bed and I finally get to relax!

Season: Fall (love the change of colors!)

Place in the world: Any place having fun with my family (Ceder Point, Disney, warm beach)

Part about working at Riverside: That I get to work with people who are on fire for God. That’s not something many people get to do.

My heroes: Jesus Christ!

One of my greatest experiences with God: When my husband lost his job unexpectedly at Christmas time and we had no idea what to do. God provided a new job two weeks later, closer to home, more pay and less stress! He gave us more than we even dreamed of!

Most people don’t know this about me: I always wanted to take voice lessons.
